Abstract

Dietary fibre is essential for maintaining gut health by serving as a substrate for the gutmicrobiome, facilitating short-chain fatty acid production, known to exert multiple health benefits. Western diets with reduced fibre intake are linked to metabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes. South Asians residing in the UK are six times more likely to develop this condition and are underrepresented in research trials.
